Description

Girls on the Run is a transformational learning program for 8 to 13 year-old girls. Life skills are taught through Ten weeks of dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games aid in teaching life skills, and prepare the girls physically and emotionally for the program's culmination in a celebratory 5K running event. The program instills self-confidence through accomplishment in addition to establishing an appreciation for health and fitness.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the program is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self respect and healthy living through training for a running race.

Results / Accomplishments

Since 2006, Girls on the Run of Montgomery County has delivered its curriculum to over 8,000 elementary and middle school girls in over 80 schools throughout the county. They have awarded $150,000 in scholarship support to underserved girls so that they may participate without financial burden. Each year over 3,000 participants along with their coaches, families, and friends participate in 5K Fun Run, which celebrates the accomplishment of the girls.
