Man 2 Man Sexual Health Seminars are designed to contextually address long-term factors that maintain unsafe sex practices among men who have sex with men (MSM) aged 18 and older. Participants in the seminar learn to challenge their own attitudes about sexual health. They are provided with accurate knowledge about sexual health, learn how to be sexually healthy while improving their sex life and relationships, learn the develop assertiveness and learn how to break isolation and develop networks as a man who has sex with other men. With these learning objectives met, seminar participants re-enter their social life with new techniques and motivation to maintain their sexual health. The methodology of the seminars encourage the formation of sexual health habits which are sustained over the lifetime.

Seminars are led by health professionals focused on human sexuality and intimacy. Seminar activities include large group presentations, small group discussions, exercises, games, challenges and workbook activities. Man 2 Man seminars are currently offered in multiple locations in Minnesota.

Goal / Mission

To reduce unprotected anal intercourse between men and decrease the incidence of HIV among gay and bisexual men that have sex with men.

Results / Accomplishments

A controlled trial was conducted where 422 participants, all MSM. Individuals were randomly assigned to either the intervention group and participated in a 2-day comprehensive human sexuality seminar (Man 2 Man), or to the control group and watched 3 hours of HIV prevention videos. Risk behavior during the preceding 3 months was measured at baseline, 3-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up. At the 12-month follow-up, the control group reported a 29% decrease in the use of condoms during anal intercourse while the intervention group reported an 8% increase in condom use (t= 2.546; p= .015).
